The Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX brought together regional carriers, technology providers, and policy leaders for a week of learning, collaboration, and forward-looking conversations about the future of telecom. As always, the event was a reminder of the strength of this community and the opportunities ahead as our industry continues to evolve.
IDI Billing Solutions was proud to be part of the action — from sharing insights on stage to connecting with customers, partners, and friends throughout the week.
Keynote: The Convergence Of Everything
One of the highlights of this year’s event was the Fierce Network keynote luncheon, “2025: The Convergence of Everything.” Our CEO, Don Culeton, joined other leaders in the mobile space to discuss how convergence continues to reshape telecom — from voice and data integration to today’s complex mix of mobile, wireline, fixed wireless, satellite, fiber, and cable.
In his remarks, Don highlighted several areas where convergence is creating both opportunities and operational challenges for carriers.
He pointed to the growing importance of address management systems tied directly to the billing catalog, ensuring carriers can confidently determine which products and services can be delivered in a given location.
He also underscored the need for smarter MDU management tools, which make it easier for property managers to handle move-ins and move-outs without overburdening customer service teams.
Finally, Don shared an anecdote from a conversation with a customer about wireless broadband demand — where oversubscription quickly revealed both the promise of new technologies and the urgency of scaling bandwidth.
Each of these examples reinforced a common theme: as networks converge, success depends on aligning strategy, customer experience, and back-office systems. The strong response from the audience made clear that these challenges are top of mind for carriers looking to meet growing subscriber expectations.
Fighting Fraud & Spam
Another critical discussion at CCA 2025 focused on security. Our CTO, Avi Dasgupta, joined fellow experts for the panel “Carrier and Subscriber Fraud: Emerging Threats and Proven Countermeasures.”
Fraud continues to be one of the most pressing issues facing regional carriers, with bad actors evolving tactics at a staggering pace. Spam campaigns are becoming more sophisticated, identity fraud is on the rise, and account takeovers can now unfold in hours rather than months — leaving carriers with shrinking response windows.
When asked about how IDI approaches the challenge, Avi emphasized the importance of a layered defense that blends people, process, and technology:
- People: Dedicated fraud management teams who actively monitor traffic patterns and anomalies.
- Process: Clear escalation workflows and partnerships with carriers to ensure suspicious activity is quickly flagged and addressed.
- Technology: Intelligent detection systems built into the B/OSS platform to help carriers identify unusual activity, validate subscriber identities, and flag inconsistencies before they escalate.
A key takeaway from the panel was that fraud prevention can’t be bolted on after the fact — it needs to be embedded into the billing infrastructure itself.
That’s why IDI is advancing its platform with built-in controls to help carriers reduce risk, including:
- Identity verification at the point of activation to mitigate subscription fraud and account takeovers.
- Real-time usage monitoring to detect unusual traffic spikes that may signal fraudulent activity.
- Configurable business rules that give carriers flexibility to adapt quickly as fraud tactics evolve.
Fraud prevention is not just about protecting revenue — it’s about safeguarding the subscriber experience. At IDI, we see this as an extension of our mission: delivering billing, automation, and workflow solutions that empower carriers to operate more efficiently, scale with confidence, and serve their communities with trust.
The Value Of Community
Beyond the sessions, the real value of CCA comes from the connections. At our booth in the exhibit hall, our team had the opportunity to dive into meaningful conversations with customers, prospects, and partners. But some of the most memorable moments happened outside the booth — at dinners, social gatherings, and networking events where ideas flowed just as freely as the conversations.
These opportunities to connect on a more personal level strengthen the relationships that drive our industry forward. Whether it’s discussing strategic initiatives with partners over dinner, catching up with customers at evening receptions, or sharing laughs with peers at community events, the CCA convention is a reminder that progress happens when we come together as a community.
Looking Ahead
CCA 2025 reinforced what makes this community unique: the willingness to collaborate, share, and innovate together. At IDI, we remain committed to empowering carriers with the tools they need to simplify operations, deliver seamless customer experiences, and grow with confidence.
We look forward to continuing these conversations — and to seeing what the next year brings as the industry moves further into the “convergence of everything.”
